My first look at the Taj Mahal during our second visit to Agra was a truly devastating moment. I had seen this beautiful monument pearly white only 10 years before. The pollution and lack of regulation due to corruption in nearby areas has caused one of the most beautiful structures in history to deteriorate.

Although devastating, I'm not sure if I will ever take a better photograph. This to me captures the essence of the Taj Mahal, past and present. Majority of the people I talk to, think of this monument as if it was once a palace. In reality, its  tomb. There are bodies buried under this structure. The absence of the miners in this photo helped me create a "tombstone" like state with a grungy atmosphere.
